Between 1920 and 1980 asbestos toxins and fibers were at their height of exposure. In Delaware, 314 tons of asbestos shipments were received. A lot of asbestos exposure occurred in shipyards, power plants, steel mills, iron mills, oil refineries, and construction sites in New Castle County, Sussex County and Kent County.

Asbestos related deaths in Delaware from 1999-2017 total up to 1,256. 211 during that time were Asbestosis Cancer Deaths and 844 were Mesothelioma Cancer Deaths. Estimated-Asbestos Cancer Deaths totaled up to 652 in Delawareduring 1999-2017.

The mortality rate from Mesothelioma in Delaware is 10.2 per million.
In Delaware, 126 residents died from mesothelioma.
Since 1979, 290 asbestos-related deaths occurred in Delaware.

Settlements

In 2016, $193.48 Million was settled against W.R. Grace & Co. in 22,240 different claims.
A $9.1 Million verdict was settled against Ford Motor Company in favor of a mechanic and owner of an automotive repair shop with mesothelioma.
In 2011, $2.8 Million was awarded against Crane Plumbing Fixtures Factory to a former worker with pleural mesothelioma.
$2.1 Million was settled to a 77-year-old Delaware engineer diagnosed with mesothelioma.
$2 Million was settled to a 77-year-old shipyard worker and Navy veteran with mesothelioma.
$1.5 Million was awarded to a 68-year-old D plant worker and roofer with mesothelioma in the state of Delaware.
$1.4 Million was awarded to an 80-year-old Navy veteran and repairman diagnosed with mesothelioma after being exposed to asbestos on the job.
$1 Million was settled to a 94-year-old millwright diagnosed with mesothelioma.
