Asbestos in Shipyards
Medical studies show that 85% of workers with 20+ or more years of shipbuilding experience suffer from an asbestos-related disease. Asbestos is an excellent material for ship building because of its ability to resist corrosion and very high temperatures.
Shipyard workers across the Unites States were exposed to asbestos with little or no protection from asbestos particles in the air and often worked in poorly ventilated areas.
Ship Builders and military personnel were exposed to asbestos by covered boilers, steam pipes, plumbing, pipefitting, wall insulation, turbines, construction, gaskets, pumps, cement and other asbestos containing products.
U.S. Shipyards were filled with asbestos-laden products between 1930 and 1970. Six thousand asbestos companies have been named in lawsuits over the last 40 years.
Mesothelioma is much more prevalent among shipyard workers and boilermakers than among the general population, because of the higher asbestos exposure in these jobs.
We will help you file asbestos and Mesothelioma claims. If you were unknowingly exposed to harmful levels of asbestos, you have legal rights and there is compensation help available for you from asbestos companies, bankruptcy trusts and other settlements.
